Mission Statement - The mission of the Florida School of Traditional Midwifery is to offer the finest in direct-entry midwifery education in an environment that encourages students to reach their full potential. We believe that it is our responsibility to promote awareness of and access to midwifery services. Our graduates are community builders who use midwifery as their tool.

Certification and Licensure - The Florida School of Traditional Midwifery (FSTM) offers direct-entry midwifery educational programs which combine the art of traditional midwifery with today's knowledge of medical science. Direct-entry refers to the European tradition where the majority of midwives enter directly into midwifery education, where nursing is not a prerequisite. Our Direct-Entry Midwifery program takes the student step by step through the acquisition of skills and knowledge necessary to practice as a direct entry midwife. Upon completion, students receive a diploma and are eligible to apply to the State of Florida for licensure and to North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) for national certification as a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM).

Program - We blend our strong academic curriculum with the individual hands-on learning experience that can only be provided by working with  midwives. Our programs are designed and taught within the framework of Midwives Model of Care. We believe it is essential for experienced midwives to be intimately involved with the education of future midwives. In our view, this sharing of the art of midwifery is one of the most vital components of a student's education.

Philosophy - We are dedicated to the education of direct-entry midwives, believing that credentialed and qualified midwives are one of the pillars of the direct-entry midwifery movement in the United States. We strive to honor the challenges inherent with the transition of a woman, in any stage of life, into midwife, recognizing that this transition is somehow linked to the transition a woman experiences in birth from woman to mother. We midwife the midwives, believing that the journey each student undertakes is a "labor" resulting in the birth of herself.

Faculty - Our faculty is made up of Licensed Midwives, Certified Nurse Midwives, and other professionals who are experts in their respective fields. They are highly qualified, and motivated through their own experiences with midwifery and a dedication and desire to give something back to the midwifery community.
